In the B town where every new comer grumbles about being approached for a casting couch to secure a role, no matter how pivotal or petty it is, there is one girl who is sad for not being getting into this silly business of casting couch. Yes, Swara Bhaskar is the lass who is lucky enough to get a memorable roles in films like ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, ‘Madholal Keep Walking’ and of course her first flick ‘Niyati’.

Swara Bhaskar played Kangana’s sister in ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and she rues that for a year she was never made any indecent proposal by any of the filmmakers. Moreover when they did she was too dippy to get it unless someone blatantly said, “Will you go to bed with me for this role?”

For this Delhi based girl Bollywood was nowhere on the wish list when she was a young kid. Studying English Literature and Sociology in JNU, she headed to the US for higher studies. This Minisha Lamba’s classmate says, “I had heard and read a lot about the casting couch, so I went to Mumbai with a prepared mind that I will have to hear all this. But for the first year nobody ever asked me such questions and I was baffled thinking everybody says all sorts of things about the industry but nobody is even asking me for any such thing. Is there a problem with me?”

She remembers an incident when she goes to an agent and he complimented a hell lot of her. He said, “I can see that you have that oomph to become a superstar, I can see that spark in your eyes. So what can you do for success?” After going on and on with a number of replies she didn’t understand what the man was asking for? At last when she did, she said, “I couldn’t bed with you if you are asking for that,” and laughs out uncontrollably.

“I have has few experiences where people were trying to touch my hand, coming closer to me, calling me up like crazy. But Mumbai is a place where nobody is going to force you. They are, for sure, going to pressurize you – as it’s a very insecure industry…so they feed on that insecurity.”

Good Swara Bhaskar that you got roles in films on basis of your talent and you should be thankful to God that you never faced what other newbie have to face. Otherwise the industry is famous for casting couch episodes.
